Browning records of serial numbers on the 1910/1955 model are vague before 1966. They estmate that number 500,000 was made around 1965, and that 550,000 was the beginning of s erial numbers. Before, his designs were produced by both FN in Europe and Colt Firearms in the United States. Since Colt did not want to produce it, Browning chose to patent and produce this design in Europe only.
Tamara, Anthony Vanderlinden's new book, FN Browning Pistols: Sidearms that Shaped World History is a fabulous resource for any FN/Browning enthusiast or anybody at all who is interested in old handguns. I hesitated before spending the $70.00 for it, but am truly glad I did. It is a gold mine of detailed information about all the FN pistols - the 1899, 1900, 1903, 1905, 1910, 1922, High Power, Baby, etc., and it also gives the history of the FN firm and its relationship with John Browning. The book is available here: http://www.fn-browning.com/new_page_1.htm Concerning your gun: Looking at the chapter on the Model 1910, and knowing only your gun's serial number (pictures would be great - is that possible?), what I see and read in the book leads me to conclude that your 1910 was probably manufactured in the very early 1920s. Vanderlinden does not give precise serial number/year ranges for this model, but he does show pictures of the different versions of the 1910's slide address from its introduction all the way to the '70s. Although pictures would be best, if that's not possible the answers to the following questions would let me narrow things down: Firstly, the serial number definitely places the gun post-World War I. But exactly how many years after WWI is uncertain. Whatever its year of manufacture, your 1910's slide address surely must read as follows: 'FABRIQUE NATIONALE D'ARMES DE GUERRE HERSTAL BELGIQUE' and underneath, 'BROWNING'S PATENT DEPOSE'. The first important question is: 1) Are the letters of the slide address in Serif or Sans Serif font? 2) Is the 'de' in the address uppercase or lowercase? I.e., does it read '..D'ARMES de GUERRE..' or '..D'ARMES DE GUERRE..'? A slide address with Sans Serif type and lowercase 'de' is from the earlier '20s, and an address with Serif type and lowercase 'de' is from about 1925-1929,though I can't narrow things down any further from what Vanderlinden has written. Apparently the transitions between slide address characteristics did not take place very sharply or clearly.
Sep 13, 2009. It's a Fabrique' Nationale (FN) Model 1910. FN 1910 serial numbers had reached well into the 400,000's by the end of WW II. Browning records of serial numbers on the 1910/1955 model are vague before 1966. They estmate that number 500000 was made around 1965, and that.
Measuring but 6' overall in length and weighing just under 1 lb., 8 ozs., this semi-automatic became an instant hit, enjoying brisk civilian and police sales—though military interest in the piece was lukewarm at best. Yamaha yl1 parts. Things changed in 1922 when the gun was revamped by increasing the 1910’s 3½' barrel length by an inch, which also required changes to the slide and slide extension. Later, the grip was extended to accommodate a magazine of greater capacity, increasing the original 1910’s capacity of seven shots of.32 ACP and six shots of.380 ACP by two rounds each.
Initially adopted by the Yugoslavian military (which was the prime mover in the gun’s alterations), the 1922 gained momentum on the world market and was eventually used by police and/or armies in Belgium, Denmark, Finland France, Greece, Holland, Romania and Turkey. When the Germans overran Belgium in 1940, they commandeered the FN facilities and turned production to their own ends, incorporating the P35 High Power and Model 1922 into the Wehrmacht.

Occupation-era Model 1922s will exhibit different acceptance marks (waffenamts) depending upon when a particular gun was manufactured. Both.32 ACP and.380 ACP versions were issued. Early specimens, some of which were constructed of parts already on-hand when FN was taken over, sport a commercial-style finish and have black plastic stocks emblazoned with the “FN” logo, while later pistols show a diminution of quality and are fitted with checkered walnut grips. German-issue 1922s have an eagle test proof, and some early guns may also be seen with Belgian proofs.
Eventually some 363,200 1922s were built between 1940 and 1945. I had one, made in 1967, traded it quite a while back. Used it as my secondary weapon on my first cop job(back in the stone age!) It worked good in both calibers. I only shot it in.32 once or twice, but I put a bunch of.380 thru it. If your has no value as a collector.all you have to do in most cases is polish the ramp and it'll feed hollows like a champ.
I normally use a drum on a dremel.start with 360 grit and end with 500. Finish it off with a little burnishing drum and simichrome polish and it'll look like a mirror. Don't worry about the mainspring, it'll work for both. Yes you can change the barrels from 380 to 32 auto or vice-versa.
Sometimes the same magazine will work both ways. These are recoil operated and the recoil spring should be changed every few 1000 rds. As far as for protection stick with ball ammo for penatration. Use FIO or SB its hotter. With these loads the 32 auto will best 1000fps and get 15' penatration.
The wolf spring works great. Both my wife and I carry 1910's. I had a pancake holster made for mine and my wife use's a Galco belly band at 5 o'clock. Both with ball 380 and ball 32. I prefer the 32auto 1910. It was John Brownin's favorite pistol and he had it on him till the day he died. Great accurate fast shooting automatic.
